why monkee, are you bothering with two turrible civics?

well, there was no option for a hatch with all the features of the coupe, and I think the coupe looks bad

VX hatchback, EX coupe. The now very rare SI hatchback came with the same engine as the EX, but never with all the power options

EX has sunroof. But i will not be transferring this over, quite obviously.

this one I didnt know about until I went to adjust the steering column in the VX. who knew this was an option!?

EX got TWO airbags! but I cant remove an airbag and sell the car, so it will stay on the black one

looks like the rubbers from the red civic will join the antenna from the black

I’ll steal the missing door trim

I already have nicer wheels, but the winter tyres and set of wheels will be handy. VX got SUPER lightweight 13in alloys for the fuel economy

VX got a painted on lip, EX is added on. But its not the one I want, so it can stay on the black car

6000rpm redline in the econo engine, 7.? in the more spritely one

not pictured is the rear drum brakes will become discs, no sway bars becomes sway bars, and some other slight variations in suspension.

Pretty cool how Honda slapped one with Kenwood and other with Sony stereo systems. Impressive. Here I am fumbling about with 8 track in my Lexus.

BTW, I don’t *think* either of those stereos are factory, are they? IIRC all of the Honda radios were Honda branded at that time. The tweeters are factory though (I worked in parts at a dealer in this time frame, so I used to know a shitload about these but memory is fuzzy now).

oh yes, factory tweeters, but for sure both headunits are aftermarket. The factory one was a boring tape player. I’m guessing both cars received new units in the late 90s

Duh - yeah, I think CD’s were very rare in Civics back then, now that I think about it.

Much of what you’re looking at was available as a dealer-installed accessory at the time - the AC, Cruise, stereos, and I think the clock and alarm, too. That was how we made all of our money, tbh.

I have no doubt. In my searching for a donor of off those components I came across so many cars that had some portion of the options but not all. So clearly there was a lot of umming and ahhing done by prospective buyers as they checked of the boxes at the dealership

wonder how much a clock cost as an option, considering it would be literally 2 minutes to install as the wiring is there already.

Yeah - that’s the beauty of what you’re trying to do here. On a lot of cars, this might look like a silly exercise in parts swapping. But these Civics (all of them) were designed with these accessories in mind from the get go - so it was pretty easy for skilled techs to make bank installing them.

We actually had to ration which techs got the AC installs, they were such gravy - IIRC good techs could install it in 1/2 book time. If a tech felt like he wasn’t getting as many AC installs as the guy next to him, he’d be whining to the service manager.

I really don’t recall what we charged for a clock - - doubt it was under $100, though, and every dealer was free to charge whatever they wanted.

When I had my 91 Civic I deleted the Ariel antenna completely. Looked much better after word. Also are you going to swap over the sunroof as well?

At least on you’re hatch they covered up the A/C button, my 91 had the A/C button completely viasble eventho my car was a DX with no A/C compressor at all, or power steering? Wil you be swapping to the powered rack on the Ex?
